The timber ponds at Langbank, Firth of Clyde

Looking like so many underwater fence posts surrounding watery fields, the timber ponds at Langbank in Renfrewshire, along the edge of the Firth of Clyde stand lonely in the setting sun.

Made redundant once ships began to be built from steel instead of wood, the posts of the timber ponds now fulfill a somewhat less demanding function as perches for herring gulls.
